Program Description
This program is the Agricultural component of the Anglo American Unki Mine Social Development program. The program will support smallholder farmers in the horticulture, beef, and poultry value chains, establishing market access through contract production in partnership with private sector companies during a three-year program. The market-driven program will support training of over 600 smallholder farmers in agricultural best practices, facilitate construction of farming and processing infrastructure, creating over 1,900 jobs by year 3.

Role Description
The M and E Officer will support timely and effective monitoring activities for the project. S/he will capture, manage, and analyze data for project reporting as requested by the project lead and required for donor reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities
Support data management and flow, including: Aggregate, clean, process and analyze data captured in the field in a timely way to provide inputs for project performance indicators and project information needs; Build and maintain database structure according to best practices; Provide input on the design of forms, surveys, and indices to minimize data errors and improve data processing; Run regular reports checking for data quality and communicate findings to supervisor; Help to identify the potential causes of bottlenecks in data flow; Provide technical assistance to field staff on mobile-based data collection; Perform data quality assessments, data cleaning and preliminary data analysis. Share and discuss findings to help identify insights to inform project implementation strategy; Contribute data analysis as part of the preparation of periodic donor reports; Support and learn from the MEL manager in the development and execution of qualitative and quantitative methods in support of M&E.

Work/Educational Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as economics or other social science, business administration, statistics, agronomy or relevant field. Demonstrated applicable work or work-study experience desirable; Understanding of how market systems work, and the various approaches to development that aim to improve market systems; Expertise in quantitative methods and database management; Knowledge of and capacity to learn data collection, data management, and analytical software (for example, Commcare, Excel, MySQL, SalesForce, NVivo, SPSS, or others); Written and oral communication skills; ability to engage and collaborate with colleagues; Ability to present data in simple and straightforward graphs and tables; Takes an inquisitive and creative approach to problem-solving; Time management skills; ability to work well independently; Inherent value and respect for voices of staff at all organizational levels, external stakeholders, and the women and men we work with; Fluency in English strongly preferred; proficiency in local languages desirable.
