Project Director: Election Consortium

A local Election Consortium working on an election project that encompasses on strengthening civil society capacity to assess and observe the pre-election, election and post-election environment, ensuring that citizens have access to information to effectively participate in and oversee democratic processes and fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to monitor policy and operational reforms of Zimbabwe's electoral and political processes seeks to hire a Project Director with the following:

Experience in program design, strategic planning and monitoring and evaluation; Proven ability to manage budgets and to lead and manage a multi-national staff effectively; Strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills, cultural sensitivity, and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with all levels of staff, US and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders, and policymakers; Outstanding ability to effectively transfer skills and experience to others as a trainer, advisor, and consultant; High degree of organization and attention to details; Ability to analyze political dynamics, and to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; Ability to manage the development, review and timely submission of project-related materials, including regular reports that measure and evaluate program results; Ability to identify, define, and effectively and innovatively resolve problems or respond to opportunities; Ability to measure progress against programmatic benchmarks for the inclusion of women and other marginalized groups in elections programming and advise on needed adjustments to programming to better achieve goals of inclusivity as-needed; Ability and willingness to travel to locations which are often remote and difficult to reach; Proven dedication to the principles of universal human rights and democracy-building; Knowledge of USAID processes, guideline, reporting and practices; Supervise, guide and mentor local project staff working on the above-mentioned initiatives; Strong oral and written communication skills in English and other local languages will be an added advantage; Assist Consortium partners to develop communications and outreach strategies with critical Zimbabwean electoral stakeholders; Administer and oversee the program budget for elections activities; Identify and assist to fill program staffing needs (i.e., help identify potential applicants for positions as well as short-term international and regional experts or advisors); Ensure programmatic goals are achieved and operations and reporting requirements are adhered to

Work/Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational background, an advanced degree in a field of study related to international development or management preferred; Minimum 5 years’ experience working in political environments or international development; experience working with political parties, with civic activists and policymakers; 2-3 years as Chief of Party or in a senior project leadership position demonstrating strategic planning, high-level liaising and partnership building with international donors’ projects and host country government organizations
